respect for water

Lots of people in Wisconsin have recently gained a new respect for water, luckily our situation was not so dire as most.

Yesterday the water pipe that brings water from the big pipe under the street into our house broke. Water came gurgling up from out of the ground in front of our porch. The city was called and they came and shut off the water to our house, but getting the pipe repaired, replaced really, is our responsibility. There wasn’t a drop in our basement, Thank God, though the sump pump was running overtime the previous night.

Yesterday evening we had a guy come out and take a look about fixing the problem. He’s going to come today and dig a hole in the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street and then use some sort of device that just burrows a tunnel under the sidewalk, under our walk and our porch right to the house. He’ll stick a new copper pipe in there and hook it all up. We’ll have water back to our house by 3:00 or so.

Not having water makes you truly appreciate how much water you actually use/need. Praise God this could be fixed so quickly.

  1. Welcome to home ownership. You’ve had the place for what, a month, and something big breaks. Not much you can do except be thankful that it didnt flood your basement
